The Ace Detective Coin plot is simple. A card is selected, remembered and returned to the pack. The pack is then placed back inside the card box. The Ace Detective coin is then introduced. The coin is clearly shown on top of the card case. You tip the coin into your hand, where it vanishes. On opening the card case and tipping out the cards you find the coin in the centre of deck. You reveal the card next to the coin. It’s the chosen card. Now for the kicker. You explain that the coin is an Ace Detective as he’s also located the four Aces (the two cards either side of the selected card).
This is a nice direct magic effect that is well within the reach of the novice magician. Two gimmicks are supplied with the effect that do all the hard work for you. The same effect could, however, be performed without the gimmicks with basic sleight of hand.
With a little thought, the gimmicks supplied could also be used for many other effects so even if you end up not using them for this routine they won’t go to waste.
I found it necessary to remove a few cards from the box to make getting the cards in and out a bit easier so it’s probably worth using another complete deck for your regular card tricks.
There are plenty of opportunities for rubbish gags with this presentation. A few are supplied for free with the instructions. This is a good solid effect for table hopping and has an instant reset. And, due to the simplicity, you can dedicate most of your time to the presentation. PS
