Tap It

This is basically the old idea of a coin visibly changing its value when tapped with a pencil or a pen. What Roger has done is to take the basic effect and add a couple of nice little touches. He uses two small coins, an American penny and a dime, and has one of the coins marked with a spectator's initials. He places the signed coin into his pocket and then places the other coin on a spectator's hand. On tapping the coin on the spectator's hand, the two coins instantly change places so that the signed coin is left on the spectator's hand and the other coin is now in his pocket.
I think that signing one of the coins is a good idea. Firstly because the impact on the spectator of their marked coin instantly appearing on their hand is very strong. Secondly, it's good because it gives a reason for a pen to be out in view (it's used to sign the coin), and this gimmicked pen is the one that you use to tap the coin to change it to the signed one. The gimmicked pen is a Sharpie and looks totally normal. The overall handling of the routine is very clean and virtually no sleight of hand is required to do the trick. There is no reset.
You are supplied with the gimmicked Sharpie, a special faked dime and a single page of instructions which cover the basics of what you need to know. For US customers this is all fine, but for UK purchasers having a gimmicked dime coin is not really any good for performance purposes. This being so, you will need to go out and buy a suitable British faked coin before you can use this trick, thus adding to the expense. Of course, you may already have a suitable coin, but if you don't.....
I think this is a nice visual coin effect which will hit home if presented properly. It would be excellent for table work in restaurants or for apparent impromptu use elsewhere since all you need to carry is the Sharpie pen and one gimmicked coin. ML
What's Hot: Quick, visual and very easy to do
What's Not: Non US customers will need to have or acquire the necessary
gimmicked coin
