Sneaky Sneaker
Bob Solari
Available from: bobsolarimagic.com
Price: $15.95 (approx. £10.00)
In essence Sneaky Sneaker is a simple
card revelation. A spectator is asked to think of, and then name, a card, which
is located and cut into the deck. A small shoe (sneaker) is placed on the top of
the deck. When the deck is spread the back of one card, the chosen card, has the
imprint of the sneaker on it.
The effect is a version of Brainwave
and, as claimed, is ‘easy to do’. The method is very well known to magicians
so what has Bob Solari added to make this version worth $15.95?
Well, you get a pack of Bicycle cards, a small ‘sneaker’, a specially
prepared card with a sneaker print on the back and a page of instructions.
Other than that? Well, nothing really.
The novelty of the little sneaker might
appeal to some but for my money it weakens the basic premise of the original
effect. In the original Brainwave,
the effect is that the magician predicts a spectator’s very free choice. In
Sneaky Sneaker the effect is that somehow the little shoe finds the chosen card
– but only after it has been named and cut into the pack.
An impossible prediction is traded for a novelty revelation. For me not a
good swap.
Normally in a review we try to appraise
but not reveal the originator’s method - but what the heck - this uses such a
well-known method it won’t hurt. After
two tries, the glue on my special card stopped sticking. No stick, no trick. If
the idea of revealing a chosen card using the sneaker appeals you will need to
source the required blue glue to refresh the gimmicked card. SB
What’s Hot: more cute and tepid
What’s Not: no mention of how to refresh the glue
