There have been many devices over the years for bending coins, some have been better than others in my opinion. Coinvexed is David Penn’s latest creation and I think it’s one of his best.
You reach into your pocket and pull out a handful of loose change. You ask a spectator to choose a coin, say a 10p piece. Handing a marker to them you ask them to initial the coin. You then offer them another denomination of coin, say a 2p piece, and ask them to draw a picture on it with the pen. This done, the coins are placed inside the spectator’s closed hands.
The spectator is asked to name either coin. Now it’s time for your best acting skills as you turn into a black belt Reiki Master, or whatever suits your persona. You pass your hands over and around the spectator’s and suddenly they feel some movement within the palms. They open their hands to find the coin they named severely bent and still signed.
It is obvious that a lot of thought has been put into the development of this newest coin bending gimmick. What’s clever about this is that the gimmick is actually in view right from the start unbeknown to the onlookers. Without tipping the method let me just say that it’s ingenious!
The gimmick comes complete with instructional DVD on which David clearly explains how to set up your gimmick and then thoroughly teaches the routining that he uses. Obviously this can be adapted to suit. The gimmick works with any currency that you wish meaning there are no limitations and is really well made so if looked after correctly should last a lifetime. The actual coin bend itself it also easy to perform and if you follow David’s routine that he explains it will go completely unnoticed, as the misdirection is excellent.
David also explains the psychology, heavily influenced by Luke Jermay, he uses within the routine which actually convinces the spectator that the coins are moving within their own hands. Coinvexed was one of the most talked about and purchased effects at the Blackpool Magician’s Convention this year. Check out World Magic Shop’s website for an online demo and see what all the fuss is about. Highly recommended! PS
