If you are looking for a startling revelation of a chosen playing card then look no further than Lex Schoppi’s ‘Card On Tie’. Here’s the basic effect: A card chosen by a spectator vanishes from the deck and appears woven into the tie of the magician.
This effect is based on the transformation of a tie without actually exchanging it and is probably as easy an effect as they come to perform. As the old saying goes, “if you have trouble performing this effect, take up a new hobby”, and in this case it is actually right.
The only thing you need to be able to do is force a playing card and you are even supplied with a gimmicked playing card for this exact purpose if you don’t know how to force a card. There is also a brief explanation of Dai Vernon’s ‘Five Card Mental Force’ should you need another method.
The tie you are supplied with has been specially woven to include a playing card, the 4 of Hearts, which is exactly the same size as an actual poker sized playing card. The embroidered card is cleverly disguised with a very simple gimmick (supplied) so you can wear the tie for as long as you like during a performance without anyone spotting the card and you are ready to use it whenever it suits you.
The instructions supplied with the tie are pretty basic but more than adequate. There are two main routines by Manuel Muerte that are explained, one for close up and the other for larger audiences. There’s also a nice little variation of the effect supplied called ‘Metamorphing’ where the selected playing card is revealed from the deck only for its face to change into the pattern of the tie and the face of the card appears on the tie. I’m sure with a little thought there are lots of other variations that could be achieved. The tie also contains an ESP symbol on the back should you require it for a mentalism reveal. The reset of the tie only takes a few seconds although you would have to do it in private.
There are literally hundreds of methods of revealing a playing card without the use of gimmicks, but for something a bit different this is certainly worth a look! PS
What's Hot: Something a little different which generates good reactions
What's Not: The current exchange rate makes this quite an expensive item just to
reveal a card
