This is one of a trio of downloadable PDF files on three
different themes by Oliver Meech, the other two being Kids and Coffee
(Close-up). Although under the title of Stage these five routines are
better suited to cabaret, stand-up, or anything bigger than a close-up
situation.
If you have a need for stand-up type routines that have
novelty and comedy these will give you some ideas to try out. Original
commercial stand-up routines are hard to find but the key to making any cabaret
routine entertaining is of course through your own personality.
These routines will provide the novelty if you can provide the
personality for these performance pieces!
A quick resume of the contents begins with Spectator
Blindfold Drive, a radio controlled toy car being driven by a blindfolded
spectator and landing on the predicted card. I’m not sure of the point of the
blindfold if the cards are face down on the floor anyway? Getting the spectator
to arrive exactly on a card without looking might be tricky in itself, but
it’s a nice easy method. Ted
Vader is another novel prediction of a movie character which the magician
proves to be correct in a rather unusual way. Trust No One involves the
whole audience and proves some of them will cheat given the chance. You will
need an interval in your show for this! Say What You See is a very corny
prediction of a chosen celebrity and Crash Bang Wallop What a Pretty Picture is
yet another prediction of a chosen card using the old tablecloth stunt (the clue
is in the title!).
In case you hadn’t noticed, all of these routines are
novelty prediction based plots so you wouldn’t want to use too many of them in
the same act. None of them contain anything technically difficult, with the
emphasis on novel presentation rather than hard hitting magic. You will need to
provide the necessary props for some of these routines like a stuffed animal
(not a real one!) and specific picture cards but nothing that is too difficult
to find. Whether these routines are actually audience tested or in some cases
untried ideas I’m not sure but they would be worth trying out and tailoring to
your own style which at this price won’t break the bank. PP
What's Hot: Good price for some novel stand-up routines
What's Not: Nothing that is magically strong and all the routines are prediction
based plots
